This Night!
“…This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God”(Luke 12:18-21).
This particular biblical missive reminds us of the importance of remaining purposed and focused on the fundamentals and principles of Christ (Matthew 6:33). The subject of the text lost his focus and became consumed by his riches. While in the midst of internal dialogue about what to do with his earthly wealth, God informed him that he was foolish and that very night his soul would be required to transition into the next dimension of life — and for him it would equate to darkness. Some people are so concerned about their external circumstances and finite elements, they have forgotten about their most prized possession – the real self – which is their soul.
This is a sobering word that every human needs to be aware of; tonight could be your This Night! Life moves at such a rapid pace some forget to secure their soul, yet without excuse. If tonight is your moment of celestially meeting the Lord on the other side, are you ready? Remember the words of 2 Peter 3:10 “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”
Tragically some do not believe in God, yet their disbelief will not prevent them from having their This Night encounter and departure into the next life. The goal is not to scare anyone into Christ but notice the solemn words of Jesus, “So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, 50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 13:49-50).
Some will have their This Night experience at the end of earthly time and others will have their encounter sooner. Do not get caught caring for earthly resources and goods, failing to secure your soul. Paul said, “Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?” (Galatians 3:3). Do not let this be you! When Jesus knocks on your door and announces your This Night arrival, be ready. You are the clay In the Potter’s Hands. God has paved a way to save and comfort you today!
